With a population of more than 500,000, it is the most populous city in Saxony and also of all the new German states. It is located in the western part of the Free State and is a metropolitan area. Leipzig is located within easy reach (about 150km) of the federal capital of Berlin between Halle on the Saale (Saxony-Anhalt) and Dresden.
The city of Leipzig has become increasingly attractive in recent years. The property market in Leipzig was quiet in the 2000s and 2010s, as the city had negative net migration. This trend has reversed in the meantime, resulting in more pressure, especially on the housing market.
Several federal autobahns run through or adjacent to Leipzig, making the location attractive for business and industry. Schkeuditz Airport is of great importance for European freight traffic. DHL processes the bulk of its air freight from there.
Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk broadcasting service (MDR) is one of the largest employers in the region. Leipzig also has a large start-up community of artists and creatives, meaning the city is especially important for media professionals.
The University of Leipzig is one of the largest in eastern Germany and one of the oldest universities in the Federal Republic. As a centre of science, Leipzig is also of great importance on a supra-regional and international level.
Apart from the floodplain forest - the only one in Europe due to biodiversity loss - directly in the city area, Leipzig is also famous for its extensive lakes in the south of the city. In addition to natural rivers, these also include flooded open-cast mining areas.

Public transport: There is a bus stop within walking distance. The nearest regional railway station is about 1km away. There is a regular train service to Leipzig city centre from here.
Traffic and noise immissions are not a problem. Hans-Driesch-Straße is a quiet residential street.
